Nature & Recreation I: Marsh’s Edge & Regatta Inn

Two Beautiful Bed and Breakfasts in Historic Folly Beach, South Carolina

  • Regatta-Inn

This was my eighth year to travel through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and enjoy the trip through North Carolina’s Lake Norman and head for the coast towards Charleston, South Carolina. This can be challenging for even the North Carolinian but once arriving on the South Carolina coast—wow what a delight! Even in mid January, one can happen upon a 70 degree beach day on Folly’s!

Last year my two nights at the Marsh’s Edge was simply delightful!! The southern hospitality of the Water’s Edge staff was incredible. The owner of both bed and breakfasts was extremely welcoming to this Northern Great Lakes retired educator and publisher of a Builder/Architect/Contractor Magazine.

You have to understand some history of Folly Beach and the low counties of South Carolina to truly appreciate the present lifestyle! This area is off the beaten path of Charleston, South Carolina. Back in the 1960’s it was a place for many “hippies” of the South to enjoy their lifestyle away from the hustle bustle of Charleston, Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Savannah Georgia.

The Regatta Inn was just opened in late 2014. This beautiful modern bed and breakfast has all the amenities of southern coastal life, including being able to dock your boat in the back yard and minutes from a walk on the beach to watch the sun rise! The rooms are elegant, the breakfasts were awesome, and the fellowship of meeting others enjoying the South Carolina low country were very memorable!!!
